What’s Wrong With Us?

1.5 billion people on the planet (projected to be 2.3 billion in 2015) are overweight. Why do so many of us eat the foods that we know aren’t good for us, that cause us to gain weight, aggravate chronic symptoms of which we spoke on many occasions in the past, and make us feel sick and even guilty?

The answer is simple: addiction. We now know that sugar is not a food, but is a drug. Sugar is more addictive than alcohol and even heroin. It is 8 times more addictive than cocaine. Therefore, the effect of sugar on us is similar to that of any of the drugs that humans use.

Depending on the country the average person consumes today between 60 and 105 kilos of sugar per year (160-285 gr a day) compared to just 3 kilos consumed on average in the year 1700.

China is the perfect example of the influence of the Western sugary diet. In China type 2 diabetes was almost unknown some 30 years ago. Every one person out of 10 is now estimated to suffer from diabetes, a higher proportion than in the US. 1 in 5 Chinese over 60 has type 2 diabetes.
The Pima Indians had no obesity or diabetes a hundred years ago or so; now they are the 2nd most obese group in the world (after the Samoans). 80% have type 2 diabetes by the time they are only 30 years old.

The worst enemies are the sweet drinks. One can of soda contains 10 teaspoons of sugar or 40-50 grams! Average American adult drinks 500 cans of soda every year, estimating about 24 kilos of sugar consumed in soft drinks alone. Whopping 1 billion cans of Coke are consumed daily around the world.

One can of soda a day increases a kid’s chance of obesity by 60%! In women one soda a day increases a risk of diabetes by … 82 %!
Artificial sweeteners? Many times worse. They are hundreds to thousands of times sweeter and easily activate our preference for sweetness more than any other substance.

Not only sugar affects our brain chemistry making us addict, but it affects our very DNA structure.

The significance of this to our spiritual path is that it numbs the emotions and blocks the neuropathways by which thought is transmitted. We are imprinting our DNA constantly with every emotion and every thought. When these are deadened or blocked, the opportunity to re-program the DNA in healthy ways becomes blocked too. Thus our DNA becomes programmed with muddled information. That in turn causes misfires or erroneous information to be sent from the DNA to the body, causing further imbalance and disease within the body.

The good news is – we can easily stop this addiction. And as well we should for the sake of health of our physical body and the advancement on our personal path. I myself experienced a wonderful program that guarantees to unhook you off the sweet drug in just 10 days. Let me know if you are interested to learn more.
